Using Automatic Code Search
Changing the RF Remote Code
The following instructions can be used to program the
remote to control the TV, VCR or DVD. If you want to
exit the automatic code search without programming any of
your components, press the CLEAR key until the LED (red
light) turns off.
Your remote control is equipped with RF functionality.
This means that the remote can control the digital satellite
receiver using both IR (infrared) signals and RF (radio
frequency) signals if it is equipped with an RF receiver. IR
signals require line-of-sight to the receiver’s front panel
remote sensor. RF signals can control the receiver from
other parts of your house, even through walls. Installing
your RF remote control antenna will increase the range
of your RF remote signal. See the owner’s manual of your
DBS system for more details.
1. Turn on the component you want to control (TV,
VCR or DVD).
2. Press and hold the component key you want to
program. While holding the component key, press
and hold ON•OFF until the LED on the remote
control turns on, then release both keys.
Note: This feature is only applicable for RCA DIRECTV digital
satellite receivers.
Note: The AUX1 and AUX2 keys can only be programmed
using Direct Entry Mode.
If you are experiencing interference from other RF
components, you may need to change the RF remote
control code. To change the code first in your satellite
receiver, do the following:
3. Point the remote at the component, press and release
PLAY, then wait five seconds or until the LED stops
flashing.
At this point the remote control is searching for the
correct code to program. If, after five seconds, the
component you want to control does not turn off,
press and release PLAY again to tell the remote to
search the next set of codes.
1. Select Options in the Main menu.
2. Select System Options.
3. Select RF Remote.
4. If you normally use the SAT key on your remote
to control your RCA satellite receiver, choose a
number between 000 and 255. Follow the on-screen
instructions to enter this number as your RF remote
control code. However, if you use the AUX1 or AUX2
key, choose a number between 000 and 099.
Continue pressing and releasing PLAY until the
component turns off or you have searched through
all of the codes. There are 20 sets of codes. If the
component does not turn off after pressing PLAY 20
times, then the remote cannot control that particular
component.
Then, to change the code on your remote to match
the satellite receiver, perform the following:
If the component you want to control does turn off:
1. Press and hold the SAT key, AUX1, or AUX2 key
(depending on which key you use to control your
satellite receiver).
1. Press and release REVERSE, then wait two seconds.
Repeat this step until the component turns back on.
2. To finish, press and hold STOP until the LED on the
remote control turns off.
2. Then use the Digit keys to enter the same RF remote
control code (000-255 for SAT), or (000-099 for AUX1
or AUX2) on your remote control.
Using the Remote to Control a
Component
Because this universal remote can control several different
components (TV, VCR, DVD, etc.), it uses operational
modes triggered by the component keys. For example, if
you want the remote to control the TV, you would press the
TV key to put the remote into TV Mode. Then, if you want
to play a videotape, press VCR then PLAY (pointing the
remote at the VCR).
Menu Function
The Menu function is used to make changes in the
selected settings, such as setting color, channels, timer,
etc. The MENU key displays TV, DVD player, and DBS
menu screens on your TV. Each Menu function will
vary from brand to brand.
Entering the Menu Mode
1. Push the component key on
the remote for the desired
menu screen.
2. Push the MENU key. This
allows you to view the menu
of the chosen component. The
(BLINK)
menu should now be visible
on your television.
Note: With some brands you may have to press the
gUIdE or INFO key for the on-screen menu.
ꢃ
3. While in MENU Mode, these
keys will function as follows:
• You may have pressed an invalid key for the mode the
remote is in (e.g., the RECORd key only works in VCR
Mode).
Navigation LEFT/RIgHT keys
will operate as cursor right
and left.
• Make sure the batteries are properly installed. (See
Battery Installation on page 1).
• Replace the batteries with two new AA batteries.
Reprogramming may be required.
Navigation UP/dOWN keys
will operate as cursor up and
down.
Problem: The remote does not operate your
component.
MENU or OK key applies the
OR
highlighted menu item.
• You must put the remote in the correct mode by
pressing the corresponding component key (TV, VCR,
dVd, SAT, AUX1, AUX2) so the remote knows which
component you want to operate.
Not all functions in all models
and brands of equipment may
be fully supported.
• Remove any obstacles between the remote and the
component. Make sure to aim the remote at the IR
sensor on the component.
Exiting the Menu Mode
To exit the MENU Mode and
clear the screen on your TV, push
the CLEAR key.
• Make sure the batteries are properly installed. (See
Battery Installation on page 1).
• Replace the batteries with two new AA batteries.
Reprogramming may be required.
• Reset the remote. Remove the batteries. Then press and
hold the number 1 key on the remote for several seconds
to reset the microprocessor inside the remote. Release the
number 1 key, reinstall the batteries, and try the remote
again. Reprogramming will be required.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Remote can’t be programmed to operate
your component.
Problem: The remote is not performing commands
properly.
• You must put the remote in the correct mode by
pressing the corresponding component key (TV,
VCR, dVd, SAT, AUX1, AUX2) so the remote knows
which component you want to operate.
• Make sure the component is “ready” (e.g., DVD
player has disc loaded; VCR has tape loaded, etc.).
• You may have pressed an invalid key for the mode
the remote is in (e.g., the RECORd key only works
in VCR Mode).
• You may be too far away from the component or at a
wrong angle. This remote uses IR (infrared) technology
to communicate with components. The remote sends
the code and the component’s IR sensor reads the code.
Therefore, there must be an unobstructed path between
the remote and the IR sensor on the component.
Move closer and make sure you point the remote at
the component (VCR when programming the VCR
key; DVD when programming the dVd key; TV
when programming the TV key; satellite receiver when
programming the SAT key).
• If you’ve entered all of the codes for your brand that are
in the enclosed Code Lists and followed the instructions,
try the Automatic Code Search method (See Using
Automatic Code Search).
• If you are trying to turn on an RCA, GE or
PROSCAN component, press the component key
(TV, VCR, dVd, SAT, AUX1, AUX2) instead of the
ON·OFF key.
• You must put the remote in the correct mode by
pressing the corresponding component key (TV, VCR,
dVd, SAT, AUX1, AUX2) so the remote knows which
component you want to operate.
• If you’re trying to change channels, try pressing the
OK key after entering the channel number as this is a
requirement of certain models and brands.
• There is a possibility that a programmed code may
only be able to control some of your component
features (e.g., only turns a component on and
off). Follow the steps provided for programming
the remote (See Programming sections). If the
component can be turned on and off, make sure
you press the CH+/CH- key to see if the component
responds. If not, try the next code from the list.
• To program the universal remote to operate a
combination unit (TV/VCR or TV/DVD), first try
the VCR or DVD codes for your brand. Some units,
however, require that you program both the TV (using
the TV codes) and the VCR or DVD (using the VCR or
DVD codes) for full operation.
• To program the universal remote to operate a
combination unit (VCR /DVD), first program your
VCR using the VCR key and then program your DVD
using the dVd key.
Problem: The VCR won’t record.
• As a safety feature, you must press the RECORd key
twice to begin recording.
Problem: The indicator light does not light when
you press a key.
• You must put the remote in the correct mode by
pressing the corresponding component key (TV, VCR,
dVd, SAT, AUX1, AUX2) so the remote knows which
component you want to operate.
• Make sure the tape is properly loaded in the VCR.
• Make sure the tape is not write-protected. If the
safety tab is removed, the tape is write-protected and
you cannot record onto that tape.
ꢄ
Problem: The remote will not change channels.
Limited Lifetime Warranty
• You must put the remote in the correct mode by
pressing the corresponding component key (TV, VCR,
dVd, SAT, AUX1, AUX2) so the remote knows which
component you want to operate.
